Bridging the Americas -- 4th Grade
Annual cross-curricular project with our Science teacher. Through the Smithsonian's Migratory Bird Project, students learn about a country in South America and the birds that migrate between continents. They exchange research and artwork with students in that country.
Annual cross-curricular project with our Science teacher. Through the Smithsonian's Migratory Bird Project, students learn about a country in South America and the birds that migrate between continents. They exchange research and artwork with students in that country.
Over several weeks in Art, students understand the bird and it's component parts through an Autodesk Sketchbook project. Students then used tempera paints to create decorative papers with pattern and color they would later use in collage. Students painted their backgrounds with watercolor, created a pattern for their bird using a photograph, and then crafted their final collage. Students were given a great deal of artistic latitude as they interpreted their birds.
